Where Is Your Domain Registered

I own a stack of domain names. I'm a domain name addict.

The problem? (asides from the price of renewals)…

Sometimes I forget where I bought them…

And information technology'south possible that you might have done the same – so how y'all can find out where y'all bought your domain name if you've forgotten?

Thankfully information technology's pretty easy & in today's weblog mail I'thousand going to explicate exactly how y'all can do information technology.

A couple of clicks & you'll take control over your domain name one time again. Just remember to write downward the proper name of the registrar where you bought it this time around though. ?

How To Discover Out Where You Bought Your Domain Name From

The first method is the simplest.

Check your emails.

When you register your domain proper noun the domain registrar will usually transport an e-mail to your inbox with the details of the purchase & if you run a search for your domain in your e-mail customer, you might but notice it.

Lost the email? No trouble – we have a fallback.

The fallback is to use something chosen a WHOIS search. The WHOIS search will pull up all of the details of your domain proper noun, including where information technology was registered – and thankfully the search is free to do.

There are various WHOIS tools that you can use, but i of my favourites is this one provided by DomainTools.

Then open that site in a new window, then firstly enter your domain as shown below:

Domain WHOIS Search

Hit search, then the next page will bring upwards all of the details of your domain.

It'll look something like this:

WHOIS Record Example

You can ignore most of the data though as the just bit you demand to be interested in is the "Registrar" section.

Going off the to a higher place example nosotros tin can run into that the domain registrar is 123-Reg Limited as shown beneath:

WHOIS Record Registrar

Hopefully, the name in that section will make information technology obvious as to who the registrar is. For case, information technology might be Godaddy, or NameCheap, etc.

Some registrars though trade nether different names from their company names.

It's no big bargain though, it just means an extra step.

Simply copy the proper name listed in the registrar section, head to Google & run a search for it.

In one case over again going off the to a higher place instance a quick Google search reveals that the domain has been registered with 123-reg, and it kindly provides us with a link to their website:

Of course, for that particular example, nosotros didn't need to really run the search equally the registrar was pretty obvious – but I only wanted to include the screenshot in case yous do indeed have to go through the actress footstep.

Either way though, hopefully, my quick piddling guide hither has helped yous to figure out who you purchased your domain from.

If you come across whatsoever problems though then don't hesitate to get out a comment below. I'll respond back to yous every bit soon every bit I can. ?
